Two days ago I put this picture of Michael and Jackson on Piggy Kingdom FB page with caption :"Michael and Jackson say hi :)" and to my surprise it's been viewed by 1682 ppl as of today (and counting), has been liked 29 times and was shared eleven times. Our usual number of viewings averages somewhere around 300 so obvious question arises: where is this interest from? I wouldn't mind repeating it with another picture, problem is I've no clue what caused this sudden rise in popularity. I guess I just need to continue snapping nice pigtures and publishing them on FB, there may be a pattern to discover :) Funnily enough an edited version of the portrait has not been so popular at all, the raw version as it came out from iphone got all the attention, more 'artistic' one has been quite completely ignored. I prefer the more dreamy portrait of those lovely boys.

Michael and Jackson got a small photo shoot today :) Those two lovely sows are one of the most neglected Guinea Pigs we ever got left in our care but they are fighters, eating well, almost too well as they chomp down everything I put in front of them, double portions. They do suffer from mange mite infestation and fungal infection, the lighter coloured Piggy shows signs of scurvy and they both are seriously undernourished. I estimate their full recovery to last at least two months, that is when they will start looking healthy again. Hopefully I'll see first signs of improvement with their skins within a week, once mange mites are gone and fungal infection is under control it should be fairly straightforward but they have a lot of coat to grow, as seen on few pictures it's thinned out badly. I'll take pictures every few days to show their recovery, they won't be up for adoption for good few months though, if ever.
New pair of sows is coming up for adoption, Bonnie, the Teddy sow and Bella, tri coloured smooth coated crested beauty. Hopefully they will find their new home soon so we can accept more unwanted Guinea Pigs in future. Bonnie's and Bella's profile page will be ready by the end of the weekend.
The pair of Piggies on the pigtures are Ginger & Bread. They were reserved 2 weeks ago due to be picked up today in the evening but as I haven't had a confirmation from the person who wanted to adopt them it looks like they will be available again. They got their bath today anyway and now they are grazing outside in a small pen :) Meet Pixie, our new girl, she joined us on Tuesday evening. She lived all on her own and her owner decided to let her go rather than get another Guinea Pig. I tried her with two Teddy sows without much success, it all ended up in squeaky fights (yes, sows do fight as well!). My third choice was Polly and it looks like we are third time lucky, so far so good :) If the girls get on nicely long term they will be available for adoption towards the end of October. Pictures below shows Polly and Pixie in a hutch. Johnny and Cash, those two cute as a button Piggies are also waiting to be adopted, they more pairs we rehome the more we can take in later. Our most recent take in just at the beginning of September was 12 Piggies from an ex breeder and 1 from a pet home, they all deserve a better future and a loving family. All available pairs are featured on the web site. Please click on the photo to access profile page for Johnny & Cash. Thanks for looking :) |
